Harvard Trip and Brown Session II

After waking up at 7, we launched our last college visit of the journey. We arrived at Harvard University around 9 AM.

Harvard was obviously the most prestigious school I've visited, we could even see it from the information session. A mini-two-story-theater style room was occupied and crowded by parents and their children who came to visit Harvard for its name. Because of our group's tardiness to the information session due to traffic and getting lost, we could only receive the later part of the talk. I learned about the strong academic programs at Harvard and the competitiveness of the admissions process. Harvard also has an amazingly beautiful campus with up-to-date technology. However, the heat shock and the crowding of visitors distracted most of us when we tried to listen to our tour guide even after we split into smaller groups.

I liked Harvard like everyone else did and I will apply to see how high I can achieve. Nonetheless, Harvard - the best college on Earth - still sounds so unrealistic and dreamy to me.

We also met up with Brown Session II students today at Harvard and the dinner at Mills Tavern. They looked energetic and excited for Brown just like we were when we first came here. I suddenly felt that my life has already been changed these days but I could not describe how. This is something I need to think about.

Tomorrow we are going to take off and come back to the Bay Area. While being unwilling to leave this place where I had so much great memories, I sincerely wish the Brown Session II group - Selene, Lupe, Irene, Lydia, Mariana and Lucero have a great time at Brown just like we did.

I'm going to miss reading your blogs--they've been inspirational.

It's a shame you were unable to be a part of the information session from the beginning. We went to great lengths to arrange for these site visits and it seems that we're missing a lot of them because of transportation woes. We need to rethink how we get to these sessions so we actually get to these sessions. Good intentions don't get us where we want to be.

At schools like Harvard, where it seems that EVERYONE wants to go, these informational sessions can be pretty crowded. I don't need to tell you, though, since you saw this first hand. That's why it's always a good idea to get there early so you can sit in the front row. I try to tell anyone who will listen that getting there 'on time' is getting there late.

It's a shame that the overcrowded nature of the session and the tour negatively flavored your impressions of Harvard. I hope you'll check into it more thoroughly to see if it's the place you want to attend.
