Arnold Lounge

As I was standing outside waiting outside for everyone to be done shopping I realized that weather plays a key role in how your day goes. It happened to be 90 degrees outside with 70 percent humidity. The day we arrived here at Brown it was about 97 degrees and raining with thunder and lightning storms. Some may think this would absolutely ruin your day but in actuality it brings people closer together.

None of the dorm rooms have air conditioning so students try to cool it down with the meager fans that we have either rented or bought from the Brown book store. Even though the fans move around the air, the air is hot so it does not do much good. Instead of staying in the hot rooms, many of us flock to Arnold Lounge. This is the most air conditioned place near the dorms. All of the library and halls are air conditioned, but you can’t socialize because you have to be quiet. Arnold Lounge provides a place for fun, relaxation, and study.

As you walk in the front door you get blown in the face with cool air. The yellow walls and comfortable furniture make it a welcoming place. The four air conditioners fill the room with a low hum. There is also a television in the corner where people come to watch the World Cup. During that time you can hear boo’s and cheer’ as the game goes on. For those who are not watching the television, they are either talking amongst themselves or working on their laptops.

The lounge provides a close and comfortable place where anyone can come and hang out in a cool room instead of the hot weather.

  1. Megan,

Sometimes it gets so hot and humid that you just can't do much of anything. It shuts your bodies down but before that it shuts down your minds.

At least you all have Arnold Lounge but sooner or later you have to leave and go back to your own rooms where your fans are, once more, still blowing hot air around.
