Tiring, But Satisfying

I have not managed to get used to the time change yet. Ms. Stewart gave us a wake up call to our hotel room at 5:30 AM which I think is really helpful. However, I was so excited today that I ended up waking up earlier. I woke up at 5 AM to take a shower.

After we had some cereal in Ms. Stewart's hotel room, we all headed off to the train station at 7:15 AM. We got a ticket to New London, CT because we were going to go to our Connecticut College tour and our meeting with one of the admissions officers. However, once we arrived in New London we realized that we didn't really have any specific instructions on how to get to the college. So Ms. Stewart decided to call for two taxi cabs. Unfortunately, she was not able to get two cabs for us so we had to walk to the college.

The walk to Connecticut College was a little difficult, since we had no idea which way to go. Sadly, we realized that we were going to end up missing the tour, but we still were determined to get to our meeting with the admissions officer. After all, we are representing the WCCUSD and we simply could not give up and cancel the meeting. We are a group of dedicated young women.

So on the way there we ended up asking many people, including a lady from the police station, for directions to the college. We just kept going and didn't gave up. Even though I got some splinters from wearing my sandals, I enjoyed the walk there. I tried to think positively and tried to walk ahead to see if I could see the college. It turned out to be an hour and a half walk there since we didn't have specific directions.

Once we finally arrived there, we were able to go listen to the information session given. The campus was really nice. The people in the admissions office were really nice to us and gave us water. They looked really impressed that we actually walked there. Then they sent us to the session. I learned that 60% percent of the students are women and that they provide freshman seminars. I observed that there were not many students walking around the campus even though 99% live there. I learned there are fewer than 2,000 students, but that the rate of applicants went up 12% since last year. I think the college was really nice, but I'm not exactly sure if it's right for me. I think it's a bit too small for me.

After the session we quickly went to talk to the admissions officer. She was really nice to us and cleared some questions we had. She then gave us her business card and we left since the taxi cabs were waiting for us. I was glad that Ms. Stewart had managed to get us a taxi cab back to the train station.

Once we arrived at the hotel, we had a few hours to rest since we were all really tired from the walk. At 5:30 PM we all met in the lobby and headed off to the area near Faneuil hall. It was a really nice place. I got to see people dancing and looked at buildings. We all then decided to go get something to eat. It was a fun experience. It seemed that everywhere I looked I saw candy and chocolate! I also saw Boston shirts and other souvenirs. We all headed back to the hotel since we needed to blog. Sadly, our hotel rooms do not have Wi-Fi and the only place with Wi-Fi is a room in the lobby so we all have to crowd in the room. The Internet access is not the best, but it's not that bad. I'm just glad that we have a spot with Wi-Fi in the hotel.

All in all, today was a great learning experience. I had so much fun.

  1. Lucero,

You all seem to have such an upbeat persona about you. Here you all had to trudge a gazillion miles in the hot sun and you're all saying such positive things about it.

I'm normally a reasonably pleasant person but I'm betting that I would have spent most of that trek making wisecracks at somebody's expense.

The trek itself would have been unpleasant enough but in that heat? Oh me, oh my!

By the way, one of the reasons why you may not have seen all that many students around campus is because it's the summer break and most schools don't offer a full compliment of classes. Or maybe they were all smart enough to stay out of the sun.
